I had been going thru this little "thing" for the past month...er...ah... um.....I almost cut my locs off and started them over again....

Don't ask me why...I guess I was feeling kind of weird about all the new hair coming in and not quite knowing what to do with it....
daez...26 Months and Going Strong.....
It's been 26 months and I am STILL loving my locs!  I decided to take some new pictures just for the fun of it...

I am having a ball with my locs...and have decided to let them freeform for a while....just to see....so I will keep ya'll posted......lol....
My locs are getting thicker...increasing in density all the time...

I have a lot of hair that is just plain new growth that isn't in any loc yet....in fact I don't know which loc it could possibly belong to...lol....
So basically I am just letting the new hair do it's thing...and the locs that are already there...well....lol..

The roots are still strong even though my locs are very small....
LOVING IT!!!
And the evil little mini-me was trying to convince me that the only way to FIX my locs was to start them over...this time using all the knowledge I have gained.....

Luckily I kicked
mini-me's behind back into the shadows....whew....
So all is well with my journey....I STILL find my self doing dumb stuff where my locs are concerned....it's almost like I don't have total control over mini-me even though I KNOW she's NOT real!!!...lol...But we are still trying to work it all out.....right mini-me..lol...
The thing I love the most about my journey is the styling options I have....I know...I know....what's to style, right..... but the way my locs are finally getting it "right" is worth any trauma I went thru early in my loc journey...I have much respect for any person who grows and maintains their natural hair...let alone locs...fa sho'....and extreme respect for the journey itself....
PRODUCTS:

Right now I am shampooing my hair alternating between Suave Shampoo and Tea Tree Shampoo with conditioner....

After I wash I towel dry and apply extra virgin olive oil for moisture....or this wonderful
Liquid Shea Butter Hair Treatment my friends Richard and his wife and partner Marilyn of Rocky Mountain Soap Factory make.  The bottle will last for months because you only need to use a small amount to accomplish moisturizing...I bought my bottle in March and am just now getting near the end of it....This stuff is da bomb!!! It softens your hair... and because it's a liquid it doesn't cause build up...Richard is the person who taught me and my sister/friend Lawana how to make soap and body cream!!  If you get the chance to check out his natural products please do...they are luscious..for real....and this is from someone who plans to make their OWN products...but I really gotta give credit where it's due...ya know.....

I am only
washing my hair every two weeks now....I don't know why....no reason in particular...but it's doing fine...

I use
ORS Hair Mayo once a month now for deep down and dirty serious conditoning ....and a leave in liquid conditioner or leave in cream conditioner everytime...this is because the climate is so extremely dry here...I do hot olive oil treatments bi-monthly...

I have made a great spritz that I use almost daily, recipe courtesy of
Detrel of Locluvers Yahoo Group....well...actually when I know I am going to be out of the house for more than a few minutes...remember.. I am retired....lol....Yayyyyy.....

I have
not been latch-hooking my new growth...I just want to see what will happen, ya know....When I find one of the loc roots is thinned I tree it to the nearest loc...using the latch-hook... at the roots only...I will probably start latch-hooking again soon...just want to see what happens without it...that's all....I am still an advocate of using this method...especially if you have suffered from "hand in loc disease" ...lol....

I
roll my hair when I shampoo it if I want to....using some new rollers I bought... they are made with cloth on the outside and a foam insert inside...so soft you can sleep in them and they protect your loc ends from damage with the cloth...I roll very loosely using plain distilled water or regular water if I am out of distilled... and with the maintaince I am now using the curls fall out much slower so they last two weeks.....when I don't curl I just let them hang.....it's all good one way or the other.....

Even though I
can see that my hair has grown a great deal I am still always surprised that it hasn't grown MORE....my hair USED to grow about 1/2 inch each month when it was relaxed...now it doesn't...all I can figure is it has to do with my hormones...or rather lack of....lol....being menopausal has really been an eye opener for me....one of the main things I have learned over the last few years about hair growth and menopause is this.... the same way pregnant women's hair grows quickly with the extra hormones they have due to the pregnancy,  the lack of estrogen causes the OPPOSITE reaction with menopause...sigh...but it's still all good, ya know....just a part of being a woman....lol....

I am going to post some of
De's great recipes for natural ingredient spritz's in the next few days if she gives me her permission....aiight????.....

Thank you God for giving me another day of life....AMEN.....
