| daez....say what?? |
| Today, I woke up and mini-me decided it was time do something different to my locs. I have a ton of cowrie shells, so I thought to myself((or rather mini-me thought FOR me)), why not add them to your locs temporarily...just to see how they will look... My best friend Lawana had told me Friday she had tickets to see Reynaldo Rey, the comedian....she invited me to go with her. But she also was in the process of moving....had three people moving all the boxes and furniture. She was moving to Aurora, a suburb of Denver, so I figured she would'nt want to go to the show....So I just put it out of my mind and started sewing the shells on the bottom row of my locs.... I used a small needle and regular black thread...I put several loop stitches on each shell...it was looking great!!! I hadn't quite finished...had about three more shells to attach...then one... when Lawana called me to tell me she was finished moving and wanted to come over my house to shower and get dressed for the show because she wasn't going to unpack anything that night...the guys who had moved her had set up her bed but she hadn't put up her shower curtain yet...UH OHHHHH...... So I jump up, run take a shower and quickly get dressed....I already have an outfit picked out...But I noticed a couple of locs on the bottom roll could use tightening... Thank God for latch-hooks!! Then, just as I am about to tighten the first loc, it hits me....I HAVE SHELLS ON THE ENDS OF MY LOCS!!!!! How the HECK an I going to tighten my locs by latch-hooking with all these dumb shells hanging off the end?????....Duhhhh...... Okay, so I decide to take the shells OFF the locs....er...ah....ummm....I used REGUL:AR thread to put the shells on!!! the thread is as thin as a strand of hair, and I can't FIND the thread!!! OMG!!!!.......AND, because I am not used to having anything hanging off my lil' locs, the shells are starting to feel heavy...Oh noooo..... Okay, daez....calm down...So Lawana gets here...I'm dressed and ready to go, or so it appears..but deep down I am tripping like crazy cuz these shells are making all kinds of noise and getting on my LAST nerves!! So I go to the comedy show...but I am so antsy I can't really sit there and enjoy it....besides, the first act was this Prince wannabee and the whole Morris Day, Jerome thang....and now my damn FEET are hurting!!!....lol....We get thru the show...(or rather Lawana get's thru the show...I am prowling the lobby and outside looking for people with locs in their hair))....Lawana's disgusted with me, so I get dropped off at home....lol...NOW...I can finally figure out what's happening with these dadgum shells!!! So I start feeling around....gently probing to see exactly where I am..and I find out I am exactly where I THOUGHT I was....allll jacked up! I try to work the first shell off with my fingers....nothing....okay...so I try to clip the threads with my manicure scissors...can't find the ends.....damn.....the only thing left to do was clip the tip off the loc.....OMG!!! I clipped one...the thread is immediately "feel-able"...I gently work the shell off, and examine my loc for damage.....the loc is intact, but I have nipped about less than 1/4 inch off....((sighing with relief))....I go to sleep...traumatized that once again I have made a dumb daez move..... The next day, I begin the process of removing all the shells....knowing I have to clip the tips off my locs I am having NO fun!! I don't want to tell anyone what's going on, but here comes Shawna and the kids!!! Damn....no I got to explain to her what's happening....lol...So I am in my bedroom, and in they walk...Shawna see's me snipping a loc tip...she almost screams at me!!! "MOM!!!....WHAT are you doing!!!"....I explain how I have jacked up the tips of the bottom row with the shells....she just looks at me like I am crazy.....She says, "Mom, you use WEAVING THREAD to attach the shells"... okay, so now I feel like a TOTAL idiot!!! I kind of hint around to her it would be so much easier if someone else could remove the shells, because I can't see what I am doing....Shawna looks at the tv and says, "Uh huhhh....it sure would be"....lol......so I am stuck, snipping the tips.....until I get all but ONE shell off....I just couldn't snip that one..it's my longest loc..... Moral: If you decide to attach shells to your locs, use WEAVING thread....it's much thicker, and you can FEEL it when you want to take them off......If you decide to add ANY ornaments to your locs, make sure, if you are latch-hooking, that you have enough new growth to get the ornament thru.....and most importantly....before you get creative, make sure you know what the heck you are doing....lol..... ....just me...daez Thank you God for giving me another day of life....AMEN..... |
