As I celebrate my 2nd year of locing, there are a few things I have learned the last few months that may be worth mentioning here....One thing is, although I still am not crazy about my gray hair, I have learned to accept it for what it is. You can see in the pictures with it, it makes my sides look really thin, which they are not....lol..
What I did was "tree" the locs right around my hairline(as well as all around my head) because these locs were really thin, so to protect them, I latch-hooked them! Now the sides are back in shape, and I just leave them alone. Also, for the gray hair, I found something I love at the beauty supply. It's this color stick made by Royal Crown. It adds a coat of dark color to the gray hairs along the hairline, so you KNOW I am loving it!..lol.. In these pictures, I don't have any on them. You can probably see the silver strands running thru my locs...now THESE I likel!!!...lol....
Another thing is I cut my bangs!! They were getting sooo long, and even though I loved the length, I like wearing a bang right now. Even after I cut them my locs still reach below my nose, so it's cool for now. I probably won't cut them anymore, but find other styles to wear with longer hair in the front.
I still use the same regime for hair maintaince...I shampoo my locs every week..(right now I am using Suave Apple Essence Shampoo, because I like the way it smells)...Then I condition them using the same brand and scent as the shampoo. Once a month I deep condition using a hot olive oil treatment one week, and ORS Hair Mayonaisse two weeks later.
I still latch-hook my new growth as needed. You can probably tell I like having my locs curled right now...Mini-me is still in check...lol
Thank you God for giving me another day of life....AMEN.... |
