| I guess you're wondering what these pictures are doing on a "how to loc" site, huh?? Well, this is my best and oldest friend, Lawana...We've been best buddies since we were like 4, aiight?? Lawana started out about a year ago with about 1 inch of texturized hair....As she watched my loc journey, I was able to convince her to go natural.... and she's been that way for a whole year now!! She has been wearing braid extensions all this time, and you can see how long, thick and luxurious her hair is growing in.... The problem....she wants a relaxer!!!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!....I just CANNOT let her go there... so I promised her if she would remain natural I would take care of her hair....can you say "BLACKMAIL".....lol.... So I figured if I log her natural hairstyles she will see how beautiful her thick, natural hair is, and REMAIN that way!! I am going to post her styles as I change them, to give her something to think about AND look at... These are pictures of a straw set I did the other day...it came out beautifully, don't you think??? So, if anyone has some great ideas for styles to keep her "happy nappy" please post them in my guestbook or email me and give them to me....Thanks ya'll.... Here's what I did: I took a section about the size of a nickel sprayed it with water and applied a bit of TCB twist and loc gel and a dab of black gel to it...((I could have used smaller or larger pieces, but this was the size I choose for this particular style..)) The smaller the section, the tighter the curl...but it will all curl and be separated anyway... I took an end paper and put it on the end of the section... I took a regular drinking straw and began to twist the hair like a "Shirley Temple Curl"...in a spiral shape....(you can cut the straw to fit shorter hair)) I put a bobby pin on the straw and hair at the root..... I did this all over....cutting straws to match the size and length of the section.... I blow-dried it lightly.....just til dry.... I took each straw out and removed the end paper's... I lightly oiled her scalp with Isoplus Tea Tree and Aloe Treatment and massaged it in... I separated each curl into pieces....probably 5 or more depending on it's location.... I sent her home....happy and nappy....lol.... Thank you God for giving me another day of life....AMEN..... |
