| Dear Journal, Well, I really did it this time! I just couldn't accept the fact that my hair was not fully loced after over a year. I mean, why should I, when everyone else I know, even people who started locing way after I did had full blown locs! I am so angry with myself. This is just another example of not accepting what it is for what it is!! When will I ever learn? I am 50 years old, and still make mistakes the way my grandkids do! Locing is a journey...locing is a process... a journey takes time!! A journey takes time!! This is the mantra I must chant to myself everyday until I really believe it and act like it! So, I conditioned my "chewy" locs too soon...and now I have to pay the piper. So here's what I have been doing to repair the damage. The hair that was matted and locing is now working it's way down and off my locs. The ends are all unraveled. The hair on my head has thinned out considerably because of this. So I begged Cherie King to make me understand what latch-hooking locs is. Latch-hooking is a technique of tightening your locs without twisting them. You use a simple latch-hook like the ones you use to hook rugs, or the way our people hook extensions to our heads after cornrowing. I had to have her break it down for me like I was two, but I finally got it. NO MORE TWISTING!!! NO MORE "hand in loc disease"!! I only mess with them when I need to retighten, and that is only every two weeks for now until I get them back in shape! Then I will do it even less....This is it!! So now all I do is wash my hair, use a little water and oil spritz, and leave them alone! They say the locs look good, but I know better. But this is my own personal punishment for being impatient. This latch-hooking technique is a wonderful thing if you do it right. At first I would catch stray hairs from another loc and hook it into the one I was working on, but if you catch it before you pull the loc all the way thru you just back it up and pull the hairs out. It's really easy, and I do it when I am watching tv or on the phone. How cool is this! I took some new pictures and posted them. Everyone says they look good, so I just have to accept them the way they are. They shall prevail...and so shall I!! I am so glad I don't really get the itchies. That beeswax experience was a nightmare. Even though I have my PK's I kept buying different products to try out...what a joke! Now that the natural hair and loc movement is in full speed everyone is coming out with a different product, and most of them aren't good for your locs. Just put a bunch of greasy mess on your locs why dontcha!! Well, I've spent my last money buying useless products. I am back on track and staying there.... I'm feeling really good today...not to much joint pain....which is always a good thing... Thank you God for giving me another day of life.....AMEN.... |
