Victor's Journey....22 Weeks and daez'z
Cutting the Tie that Binds.....
It's been 22 weeks since I began Victor's babylocs....His locs have now reached the teenage stage....and it's time to cut him loose to start maintaining his own locs....as it should be....

NO ONE....and I mean NO ONE....can feed the spirit of YOU into your locs EXCEPT YOU!!!  Victor has reached the stage in his loc journey that he needs to get up close and personal with his teenage locs....

I am cutting my star pupil and pet project loose....to begin the next leg of his loc journey....((can ya'll feel me cheezin')).....lol......
Last night Victor came over to have me do his loc maintaince....I had not seen him in exactly one month!....When Victor walked in the door, I took one look at his head and knew it was time for him to begin his own loc maintaince....His locs are now full and firmly in place...his scalp is clean and so is his hair...his locs have reached the point where he can wash or wet his hair as often as he likes without needing maintaince every two weeks....his babylocs are now offically in the teenage stage....

There is no lint or debis...build up...or anything else that could be present that would require me to continue taking care of his locs....the last time I palmrolled Victor's locs was the day before I left for my
Excellent Adventure.  I was gone for two weeks....and when I came back, Victor called and scheduled and appointment to come for his maintaince....He gave his hair a vigorus shampooing, and discovered his locs were STILL all set in place!.....so he waited another two weeks because his locs are looking wonderful....they are healthy and full....firmed up on the ends and each loc is separate...as they should be.....

I laughed with joy when I saw his hair....it was sooo amazing to me...knowing how far he had come in just 22 weeks.....So I took Victor into my bathroom to teach him how to retwist and/or palmroll his locs!!!....lol....This is one of the most exciting things that I have experienced since I began MY loc journey!!...in one way, it's sad because he has been my pet project....my star attentive pupil...

But in all other ways it's a joy....because I know and HE now knows he CAN maintain his own locs, which was my goal all along....I took pictures of Victor as I explained to him how to do his "doo"...lol...it's a wonderful feeling.....lol...!!!!...
As I've told you before but I will remind you here, Victor is VERRRY tall...he is 6'4 1/2 inches tall with large slender hands...You can see how each loc is now fully budded on the ends..actually, about 2 inches all around!!....Vic wasn't the least bit nervous about learning how to maintain his hair...lol..

He first practiced palmrolling....I gave him an ink pen, because it was the easiest way to teach him how to palmroll....I had him practice getting the feel of rolling in one direction....he got it quickly....

Then I taught him how to twist his hair....understand now....I didn't do it FOR him...I had him do it himself.....it was pretty cool watching him get the "feel" for his locs...really for the first time....

He had begun his independence journey.....yayyyyyyyy VIC!!!!!!.....
As Vic twisted his first loc, I could see he really "got" it...his long...slender fingers were working that loc....lol....but unfortunately they also got in the way of the camera.....lol.....
I had Vic stand in front of the mirror and spritz his hair with water....the same way I would have if I had been doing it....except this time he had the opportunity to actually see and feel what was happening.....
Vic took a tiny dab of PK's and applied it to his twist...one right in the front so he could see what he was doing....

I then had him twist the loc clockwise to tighten it...

When he finished tightening it.... he was done!!....lol...I feel like a proud mama who's baby has just taken their first step!!....lol.....
The picture below shows you what it looked like after applying the Pk's and twisting....remember...he only twisted ONE loc....

I had him try to palmroll one also...he had the "feel" of palmrolling down...but when he actually tried to palmroll the loc he had some difficulty actually rolling it....I believe it's because he was trying to roll one on the side...right at his temples....that part of his hair is not loced yet, because it is still growing in....

I told him to practice palmrolling on some of the longer, firmer locs further back on his sides and on the top... and twist the rest ....for now....

In the meantime...I sent him home to twist his own hair....for the very first time!  If he needs help or wants to relax and not do it himself sometimes....wellllll....he knows who to come to....lol....

These pictures show exactly how Victor's hair looked when he came to my  house....

Each and every loc is now firmed up from the tip.....

Each section is set in place....and each loc is ready for Vic to love it....lol....
Healthy....thick...fully budded locs.....set in place....clean  scalp..,,and a VERY happy and smiling Victor to go along with it.....

I sent him home with a brand new jar of PK's NattyLock Cream....my favorite blow-dryer...and two clips to clip the other locs out of the way when he is working on one.....

I asked him if he has been using any other products on his hair between maintaince visits....this is what he uses:

He shampoo's his hair with a Tea Tree Shampoo....

He was using Carol's Daughter Twist and Loc Butter if he had any dryness on his scalp....but he said it was too greasy....so he now uses ORS Anti-Itch oil....his scalp doesn't itch...but he says the oil is lighter and does what he needs it to.....

The only other product he is using is PK's scalp cleanser spraying between shampooing......and that's it....

He is to use the blow-dryer to "set" his locs in place....on warm.....and I know he will do a wonderful job too!!!.....
These pictures represent the different stages Victor's locs went thru....posted randomly....they have thrived because his hair was WASHED REGULARLY....

The sweetest gift for me has been the big smile on his face as he walked out the door....ready to do battle with those nay sayer's who claim your hair has to be dirty to loc....DON'T believe it!!!!

This is picture....step by step
proof that it's not true!!!!!
When all is said and done this has been one of the best feelings EYE have ever experienced....

I only wish I had known when I started my locs what I know now.....
So in a couple of weeks Vic and I are going to sit down and have another loc chat.....I think you will enjoy finding out how he is doing once he really has a chance to get up in his locs and get the feel of them.....

In the meantime....I am thankful that I have had the opportunity to help him begin his loc journey...I am thankful that he is happy with his crown....and I am thankful I am able to share this with all of YOU!!!....lol...

Thank you God for giving me another day of life....AMEN.....
